Life Lie #3
success is when hard work meets opportunity
False. Success is far more complicated. Whether you receive this faux wisdom from your favorite entrepreneur-turned-billionaire or every contemporary motivational speaker, pay close attention to the part that’s not amplified and glorified i.e. opportunity.
Instead of wondering why certain opportunities may be out of reach, you are now compelled to focus on something you’re not doing well enough. Instead of trying to understand what external factors might be enhancing or limiting your shot at the big leagues, now you grapple with internal issues that may or may not be relevant.
There are plenty of people who don’t work very hard and enjoy success. There are also people who work extremely hard and never make it to the top. Neither of these people make sensational stories or statistical graphs, but they’re real people all the same.
In short, success is determined by much more than just your effort. Don’t assume that there’s something inherently wrong with yourself or that the reason you didn’t strike gold is because you didn’t work hard enough.
Hang it up.
